Highest-ranking Mormon in Government Supports Marriage Equality
Harry Reid (D-NV) has recently affirmed his support of marriage equality. Coming shortly after President Obama publicly announced his support of marriage equality, Senator Reid told a gathering in Nevada that: “My personal belief is that marriage is between a man and a woman. But in a civil society, I believe that people should be able to marry whomever they want, and it’s no business of mine if two men or two women want to get married.”

I’m so glad to read this! It just tells me what I believed about him all along, that he acts on his faith. We are taught that in the preexistence one of the reasons Lucifer lost was his insistence on requiring God’s children to do all the right things. Well, God didn’t require us to give up our free will. And it is good to know that there is a member of this Church in the halls of Congress who understands that, while it can be legislated how fast a person can drive, and that one cannot keep a pet hippopotamus, one cannot legislate others to follow his/her own idea of morality, no matter how much the disobedience of those ideas offends said lawmaker. And if it is good enough for God, and obviously Senator Reid believes it is good enough for him, it can be good enough for the rest of them.
